Chet's Story

I grew up so close to Miramar that I could identify most of the Navy jets before I was able to ride a bike. Many of our neighbors were fighter pilots. One had shot down two MiGs in an F-4 Phantom. Another had been a founding member of the Air Force Thunderbirds. Several instructed at Top Gun. It was the very best place to grow up if you were a kid who loved airplanes, as I did.

My first airplane ride was with an F-8 Crusader pilot in his own Bonanza when I was ten. I loved it so much that just as soon as I was old enough, I became a pilot too. After that, I fulfilled another lifelong dream by graduating from medical school.

Even though I’ve now flown for decades, my love of aviation has only grown stronger. I enjoy aerobatics in my Super Decathlon and flying my 1940 North American Yale. I can’t even imagine what my life would be like if I weren’t a pilot.
That’s why I know how daunting it can be to visit an AME. Every one of us becomes nervous, thinking that something which defines who we are could be taken away.

As a pilot, I’m acutely aware of that. And, that is exactly what motivates me to do everything possible to help other pilots keep doing what all of us love so much.

Reach out to me. I’d love to talk with you about your aviation medical needs,

Charles (Chet) Stringham
